Borrowing

Who can borrow materials from OU Libraries?

• Currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students
  Must have your OU ID validated at the Service Desk.
  
  
• OU faculty and staff (including Emeriti faculty)
  Must have your OU ID validated at the Service Desk.
  
  
• OU alumni have borrowing privileges with a complementary guest card.
  
  
• OU retired faculty (non-Emeriti)
  Eligible for a free guest card with faculty privileges for borrowing.
  
  
• Graduate students working on their dissertations, but not currently enrolled, need to make special arrangements. Please call 248-370-4425 or email circ@oakland.edu.
  
  
• Members of these reciprocal institutions can get a library card for a semester and check out up to 3 items at a time. You'll need to provide a picture ID and proof of registration for classes for the current semester. Institutions: University of Detroit Mercy, and Walsh College.
  
  
• Members of MeLCat Visiting Patron Libraries
  If your library participates in the MeLCat Visiting Patron Service (look up if it does), you may present your valid library card and a photo ID to borrow items in-person from the Oakland University Libraries. All renewals are managed through the MyMeLCat user portal. Items you borrow may be returned here or to your home library.
  
  
• Members of SEMLOL Infopass libraries
  Please check list to see more details about borrowing privileges. You need to get an InfoPass from your library first and then you may check out up to 5 items from the OU Libraries.
  
  
• Faculty from 15 Michigan public colleges and universities
  Eligible for a free guest card.
  
  
• Visiting scholars
  Eligible for a free guest card.
  
  
• Continuing education students
  Guest cards are available for $50.00 per year - learn more.
  
  
• Guests
  Guest cards are available for $50.00 per year - learn more.
