2008 Matilda R. Wilson/Alfred G. Wilson and Human Relations Award

Time is near to submit nominations for the 2008 Matilda R. Wilson/Alfred G. Wilson and Human Relations Award!  The Wilson Awards were established in 1965 and recognize one female and one male who have contributed as scholars, leaders, and responsible citizens to the Oakland University Community.  To date, 42 males and 42 females have received this highly coveted honor!!

The Human Relations Award was established in 1990 and recognizes a senior student who has made an outstanding contribution to intergroup understanding and conflict resolution in the Oakland University Community.  Eligible candidates must have an academic record of 2.5 or above and graduated in December 2007 or will be graduating in May 2008.  This award has been given to 17 students.

These outstanding individuals are publicly recognized by the Board of Trustees and at the May 2008 Commencement Ceremony.  Additionally, they are invited to a formal dinner with President Russi, Dr. Moudgil and Dr. Mary Beth Snyder (this is a real treat!).  Lastly, each award winner receives the Wilson Award Bronze Medallion and a monetary stipend.

You will be interested in knowing that the nomination process has been revised.  Specifically, the essay requirement has been discontinued and replaced with an interview with the Wilson Award Selection Committee.  This should be particularly appealing to worthy students who would love to apply but are inundated with work and simply short on time.

Please share this wonderful opportunity with students and colleagues.
The nominations are available on-line and can be accessed under Awards and Scholarships. You can download a nomination form here.  Nominations are due by Monday, February 4, to the Dean of Students Office, 144 Oakland Center.

Please contact Karen Lloyd if you have any questions.
