The Tournées French Film

Festival

 

For the third straight year Oakland University has been chosen to receive a grant from the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE) to host a Tournées French Film Festival. The Tournées Festival presents the best in modern French cinema to American college campuses. Starting in January 2009, six films, from comedies, shorts, dramas and documentaries, will be shown at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoons in the newly renovated 156 North Foundation Hall. All films are free of charge and are open to the public. Films will be shown in their original language with English subtitles.

 
 

January 11, 2009 - "L'Enfant (The Child)"

Sonia and Bruno are a young couple living on the fringes in a Belgian steel town. Without telling Sonia, Bruno sells their newborn baby and their lives change forever.

January 18, 2009 - "Two Days in Paris"
Actress Julie Delpy wrote, directed and starred in this comedy about a French woman introducing her neurotic American boyfriend to her family in Paris.

January 25, 2009 - "Ne touchez pas la hache (The Duchess of Langlois)"

Based on Balzac's 1834 short novel and set against the French Restoration, acclaimed director Jacques Rivette tells a tale of obsessive love, passion and cruelty.

February 1, 2009 - "Dans Paris (Inside Paris)"
A 30-year-old man lives with his wife in the countryside and has an inexplicable breakdown. He then returns to his father's flat in Paris and refuses to get out of bed.

February 8, 2009 - "L'Origine de la tendresse et autres contes (L'Origine de la Tendresse and Other Tales)"
A series of six film shorts, several of which are international award winners, including "Gratte-papier," which won the Silver Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival in 2005, where a young man and woman are seated next to each other on the Paris metro on an ordinary day, yet they will be introduced to each other in an unexpected fashion.

February 15, 2009 - "Elle S'Appelle Sabine (Her Name is Sabine)"
Documentary from notable French actress Sandrine Bonnaire about her older autistic sister Sabine.
