History

The Creative Arts Council was a non-profit organization of Michigan women artists and craftswomen. It was founded in 1968 as an outgrowth of the Investigation into Identity enrichment program created by Oakland University’s Continuum Center. Its mission was to give women the opportunity to investigate their creative potentials. The 24 charter members designed the group to provide support and encouragement to each other and to exchange creative ideas. In 1972 the members formed a separate corporation to establish Objects and Images Gallery in Rochester, Michigan, which lasted until 1984.

Until their dissolution in 2004 Creative Arts Council members took part in community sponsored art activities and the Creative Arts Council sponsored art exhibits and sales each year. “Art at Meadow Brook,” an invitational open juried show, was held annually on the grounds of Meadow Brook Hall.
