History
The Greek Council was set up in 1983 to promote Greek life on campus. It started hosting Parents' Day and organizing other events. Today's Greek Council helps oversee all Greek lettered organizations at OU with the help of the Coordinator of student Organizations. It plans Greek Week. Related organizations are the Inter-Fraternity Council (overseeing all fraternities on campus), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (African-American Greek organizations), and the Panhellenic Council (or Panhellenic Association, for sororities).
Scope and Contents note
This collection brings together miscellaneous files from or about Greek organizations at OU, mostly from the Dean of Students Office. The series correspond to different organizations on campus and cover the period from 1982 to 2007. First, the Coordinator of Student Organizations files include minutes of Greek Advisors meetings and materials form the Greek Advocate Committee. The files of the Greek Council, Inter-Fraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Pan-Hellenic Council are organized in different series. The Gamma Sigma Alpha series covers the founding of this Greek Academic Honor Society chapter at OU in 2005. Finally the Greek President's Club series contains general documents for Greek organizations at OU and meeting minutes for 2006-2007.
