History
The Commission was appointed by Chancellor Varner in March 1967 to provide recommendations on student government and on coordination of the student life program. The Commission included 11 faculty members, 8 students, and 2 staff members. It issued its report in May 1967. The following year, the commission became an ad hoc committee of the Senate with 6 students elected at-large by the student body, 5 faculty members, one administrative-professional staff member, and the Dean of Students, as an ex officio and non-voting member. Its broad mission was to provide guidance on anything related to student life. The resignation of Chancellor Varner and selection of Donald O'Dowd as new president led to the resignation of students representatives on the Senate and ended the commission's work.
