Reading bibliographic records

Every item in the library's collection is represented in Voyager by a bibliographic record. This record serves several purposes.

  • It allows access by different ways you may be looking for the item; therefore the record will list the authors, titles and subjects by which the item can be identified.
  • It gives a complete description of the item so that it can be precisely identified.
  • It gives you the particular location where it may be found.

The following example illustrates each of these aspects:

Each of the fields within this record is identified by the type of information recorded. The fields in green are hyperlinked; if you wanted to search for other material on "Frontier and pioneer life in the West," all you need to do is click on the second subject heading. Similarly, clicking on the call number would produce a listing of all titles in that area of the stacks.
