Exporting Citations
from Cochrane Library... to RefWorks

 

 

 

In the Cochrane Library

  1. Click on the checkbox to the left of each record to import.
  2. Click on the "Export Selected Citations" box at the bottom of the screen (note: you can also import all of the records by clicking on the "Export All Results" box)
  3. For "Export Type" select Abstract and Citation. For "File Type" choose PC, MAC, or UNIX or LINUX, depending on your machine. Click on "Export Citation".
  4. You will be prompted to save a text file. Save this text file to a convenient location, such as the desktop.

In RefWorks

  1. Login to your RefWorks database if you have not already done so.
  2. From the References drop down menu select Import
  3. From the "Import Filter/Data Source" drop down menu select "Cochrane Library"
  4. From the "Database" drop down menu select "Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews"
  5. From "Select Text File" browse through your files and find the text file you just saved.
  6. From the "Encoding" drop down menu select "ANSI - Latin 1"
  7. For "Import Into Folder" you may select a specific folder to import your references into (or leave it blank)
  8. Click the "Import" button at the bottom right.
  9. Your citation(s) will automatically be imported
