What Color is Your Parachute: Job Hunting Online -
Created by the author of the most famous job search book, this site includes links to job postings and career counseling sites, plus resume advice and tips for job searchers.
Internet Career Connection -
Although this commercial site contains ads, it organizes hundreds of career-related WWW sites. Site categories include: career/job fairs, career counseling, adult education programs, classified ad sites, company profiles, consulting firms, professional associations, resume posting services, and salary guides. Next to the Riley Guide, one of the most valuable career research guides available.

The "Work" section of the USNews website offers job search advice, resume guidance, a list of "hot" jobs and occupations, the USNEWs' "Career Guide," and articles on managing careers, balancing family and work, etc. Also contains the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey to help users discover their career interests.

| Researching Employers |
Hoover's Online -
Contains over "13,500 company capsules (brief company descriptions and financials) for free." For more extensive company profiles, you must subscribe to the Hoover service for a fee. Includes data on public and private firms, plus articles, and links to stock market, company, and other financial information. The complete Hoover's Company Reports* are included in the Lexis Nexis Academic Universe database.
EDGAR Database -
Publicly traded companies must file financial reports and other documentation--including annual and 10-K reports--with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). Search these reports using the SEC's EDGAR database, which dates back to 1994 for some companies, and 1996 for the rest.

O*NET -
Developed by the Department of Labor, O*NET is an excellent career research tool, providing information on over 950 job classifications. Offers occupation descriptions, plus skill and education requirements, related interests, job actvities, worker characteristics, and much more. For employment and wages trends, O*NET links the user to "America's Career InfoNet" (see Salary Data ).
Occupational Outlook Handbook -
Search the database or browse the index of the latest version of the Bureau of Labor Statistics' handbook of career and occupation information. For hundreds of occupations, the Handbook provides information on working conditions, employment statistics, job outlook, average salaries, and training. A print copy is available on reserve at KL (Ref. HD 8051 .A62) and in the Government Documents section (Docs. Ref. L2 .3/4).

Choose "Salary & Hiring Info" from the top menu. Includes a salary calculator for comparing cost of living in U.S. and international cities. Also contains salary tables for various professions from the National Business Employment Weekly.

Bureau of Labor Statistics -
Contains official federal statistics on wages, salaries, and other employment statistics. Check out the "Wages, Earnings & Benefits" section, in particular the National Compensation Survey.

Find salary information by job title and geographic location for hundreds of careers. Also includes advice on getting the salary that you deserve, plus lots of other career advice.
