The PrintWise system that has been installed for print management campus wide can now be accessed from your wireless laptop when you are connected to the grizzNet wireless network (find out more about Grizznet Wireless network access). The directions below will show you how to add the PrintWise Printer to your computer and send documents to the Release Stations/Printers in the Kresge Library. These instructions are for Windows XP computers. Instructions for setting up wireless printing on Apple computers are available as well.
Networked printer paths: For printers on the 2nd
floor, reference area For printers on the 1st floor, computer lab (room
130) |
Adding the PrintWise Printer in Windows XP
1.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Add
Printer

2. Click "Next" in the Add a Printer Wizard Window

3. Select "A Network printer..." and click "Next"

4. Select "Connect to this printer (or browse for...".
Enter the network name/path \\goprnsrv.sys.oakland.edu\gprinter10
(black and white printers on the 2nd floor) or \\goprnsrv.sys.oakland.edu\gp_kresge_color
(color printer in the computer lab on the 1st floor) . Click "Next"

5. You will get a warning message about a print driver.
Select "Yes," as you need this printer driver
to use PrintWise.

You
may occasionally encounter an error message at this point
("Can't find int file. The server for... does
not have the correct printer driver...") indicating
that the required drivers could not be found/downloaded,
then asking you if you would like to install your own drivers.
If this occurs, cancel Add a Printer feature. Next, download
the driver appropriate for you operating system for either
the Black
and White Ricoh 1045 PCL6 or the Color Aficio
CL4000DN PCL6. Unzip the files to your desktop. Go back
and start over at step 1. When you get to this step again,
choose to continue and select the "have disk" option when
it prompt for a printer driver. Navigate to the folder/files
you just downloaded and unzipped. Continue to the next step.
6. You can make this your default printer if you choose.
If you don't, you'll need to select it from the "File > Print"
options in whatever program you are using (meaning the
simple print buttons won't work, so if that matters to you,
select "Yes"). Click "Next"

7. You'll get a confirmation screen letting you know the
printer has been added.

That's it! You can now send print jobs to the PrintWise Printers
in the Kresge Library.
Picking up your Print Job
1. ALL of the print jobs coming from the wireless network will appear on the
release station screens as: NetAuth.
2. Go to the appropriate print
release station (1st floor reference area for grprinter10 black and white,
and 1st floor computer lab for gp_color_kresge for color
printouts) and select the "netauth" computer print
queue. Your print job will be located in this queue, along
with
all of the print jobs coming from the wireless network.
This means that you will have to be very careful
to select only your own print job(s). Follow the
on screen directions and you'll get your print out.

Setting up wireless printing on Apple computers
