Accessibility

Kresge Libary provides the following services and resources for disabled patrons. For more information about campus-wide services, please visit OU's Office of Disability Support Services.

Adaptive Technology
Two adaptive computer stations are available on adjustable-height tables in the Library's Learning Commons (North Wing). A third adaptive station is available in Study Room #227, and includes a Juliet Braille Embosser & Duxbury Braille Translator. The key for Room #227 may be requested at the Circulation Desk on Kresge Library's 2nd floor. In addition to the software available on all of the Library's research computers, the Adaptive Stations provide the following software and come equipped with large-print keyboards and noise-canceling headphones/microphones:

Topaz CCTV
Juliet Braille Embosser & Duxbury Braille Translator
Headphones
Microphones

Software includes:
Dragon Naturally Speaking (voice-to-text dictation software - not installed in Room 227)
Kurzweil 1000 & 3000 (text to speech software)
Inspiration (visual mapping, outlining and writing software - Room 227 only)
JAWS - (screen-reading software)
ZoomText (screen-enlarging software)

Assistance for these programs is available in the Library's North and South wings at the Technology Help Desks.

Physical Facilities
The University Libraries is committed to making its facilites physically accessible in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, but this is a work in progress. For access to materials or resources in libraries, please contact the library staff or the Disability Support Services office.

There are two main elevators in the middle of the library providing Braille lettering and access to all floors in Kresge Library

Wheelchair-accessible drinking fountains are located between the restrooms on each floor.

Adjustable-height tables are available in the north wing of the Learning Commons.

There are accessible restrooms on three floors. Private bathrooms are available, by request.

Service animals are always welcome.

Retrieving Materials from the Libraries' Collections
Upon request, staff at the Circulation and Technology Help Desks will retrieve materials from the collections. To request an item, click on the "Make a Request" button in the catalog and enter your Student ID number and last name. Select the Pull for Pick Up option. You may pick up materials at the Circulation Desk. Patrons are encouraged to bring an assistant if a large number of materials must be retrieved. If your disability makes it difficult for you to visit the physical Library, please do not hesitate to contact the library staff or the Disability Support Services office for assistance.

Printing Services
Staff at the Access Services and Technology Help Desks, on the 2nd floor of Kresge Library, will help patrons needing assistance with printing. In addition, the printing stations in both the North and South wings have a print-release station set at a wheelchair-friendly height.

Photocopying
Staff at the Circulation and Technology Help Desks, on the 2nd floor of Kresge Library, will assist patrons with photocopying. Patrons are encouraged to bring an assistant if large quantities of photocopying are needed.

Library Instruction
OU librarians offer customized tours and instruction to facilitate learning about library resources and services. Library guides will be made available in other formats upon request.
