Rush Book Procedures
|
Virtually every library has a backlog of books
waiting to be cataloged. The rush book procedure
allows patrons to request a book, that is waiting to
be cataloged. This request bumps the book to the
head of the cataloging queue, and within 48 hours the
patron receives the book.
- When you receive a book request via e-mail:
- Print it off
- Send message to ts_rush@oakland.edu
saying you are taking care of the rush
- Verify that the book has been received, but not
processed.
- If the book has already been cataloged, or there
is another problem with the book, let Access know.
- If there is no problem with the book:
- Find the book
- If an approval book:
- Ask a librarian if we may keep the
book
- Let the invoicing clerk know about the
approval book so it will be invoiced
correctly.
- Catalog the book.
- Set the rush book status on the item record.
- Place the book on the paper cutter so the students
will find, and process it.
- Students will take the book upstairs:
- If the book is a course reserve item, it
will be given to the Reserves clerk
- If it is not a course reserve the book will
be given to the Access supervisor in charge
of notifying patrons their rush books are ready.
