DVDs with Provisional
Records

This procedure covers the choosing of records for DVDs, which have only
provisional records. |
- Open
up OCLC.
- Open
up Voyager.
- Search
the title in Voyager.
***ITC created the provisional records in capital letters for
easy recognition.***
- Search
the title in OCLC.
- Select
the title, in OCLC, which has DVD in the 538. This is the record for a DVD version
of the title.
- Look
the record over. Compare the information about who produced, directed,
acted etc. in the film with what is on the DVD itself. (508, 511)
- Compare
the dates. (260)
- If the
DVD has a caption reading "Special edition" or "Collector's edition" or such.it
must appear on the record in the 250.
- If the
DVD says wide screen, full screen etc. there is a difference and the
difference must be reflected in the record. (250)
- Compare
the running time. (300)
- Compare
the sound information. (538)
- Compare
the regional information (DVDs are recorded to play only in certain
regions).(538)
- Compare
the special features notes. (500)
- Once
it is ascertained that the record in OCLC matches the DVD in hand, import
it in to Voyager and overlay the provisional record.
- Suppress
the record.
- Alter
the prefix in the 852 on the MFHD from D followed by the accession number to DVD-
followed by the accession number.
