Cataloging Books, which come with Compact Discs

There
are books, which come with a compact disc (CD). The books are cataloged for the
general collection. The compact discs are cataloged and then shelved behind the
Circulation Desk.
Procedure
- Open OCLC.
- Open the Cataloging module in Voyager.
- Bring up the book's record in Voyager.
- Bring up the book's record in OCLC.
- Verify that the OCLC record matches the book in hand.
- Update the OCLC record with Kresge Library's EYR
symbol.
- Import and overlay the Voyager record with the OCLC
record.
- Create a MFHD.
- Insert the appropriate location for the book, which is being cataloged.
(***There are several possible locations, such as: oukl, ref,
sres.***)
- Insert the call number
- In an 866 with the delimiter z indicating a public
note: One book and one compact disc
(***If there's more than one book or
one compact disc then change the numbers to the appropriate enumeration***)
- Create an item record for the book.
- Create a separate MFHD for the compact disc.
- Make the location "cd" on the MFHD (delimiter b)
- Put the call number for the book in the delimiter h
- Create an item record for the compact disc
- Put the barcode in the item record
- In the enum field place the initials CD to
indicate that the item is a compact disc.
(***NOTE: The CD in the enum field
will appear in the OPAC statement that the CD is shelved at the Circulation
Desk***)
- Save the item record to the database.
The exceptions to this part of the procedure are Faculty Collection books and Theses, which go into the University Archives. The CDs remain with the materials.
