Gaylor Collection
![]() |
The Gaylor Collection, located in the GLBT Literature and Resource Center (KL 106), consists of almost 3000 titles focusing on gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, or trangendered individuals or lifestyles. Approximately 40 percent of the collection is fiction featuring gay or lesbian characters. The remaining texts cover a wide variety of disciplines, e.g. religion, philosophy, psychology, sociology, politics, literature, the arts and history. In addition a number of backruns of important journal titles are included. |
Robert G. Gaylor, Professor Emeritus of the Oakland University Library, began painstakingly and carefully collecting materials in the 1960's when they were not as easily obtainable as they now are. Using book reviews and his library expertise, he put together a collection of high quality books and journals, a collection the Dean of the Library stated "is unduplicated and unsurpassed in all of Oakland County."
The collection is searchable using a boolean keyword search, e.g. "gaylor collection" , in the Library Catalog.
The Resource Center may be used by individuals or groups; the key to the room can be requested at the Circulation Desk.
