Logging on to MiLE

MiLeQuestion: How do I logon to MiLE?

Answer: From the Interlibrary Loan homepage choose Request Interlibrary Loan via MiLE. Type the barcode from the back of your OU library card. Then choose Submit input or press the enter key. You may choose Search and Request or Review Your Requests.

Question: I cannot logon using my Oakland University Library barcode. What should I do?

Answer: Contact the Kresge Library Circulation Desk to check on the status of your barcode. It won't work for MiLE if it has expired or is blocked for excessive fines or overdue items. Only Oakland University students, faculty and staff in good standing can logon to MiLE to place requests. The phone number for the circulation desk at the Kresge Library is 248.370.4425

Question: What should I do if my barcode is working, and I still cannot login?

Answer: Check the computer requirements for the MiLE system at the MiLE login page. Click the help icon and follow the instructions.

Question: Can I use MiLE if I do not have an Oakland University Library barcode?

Answer: Yes, you may search the MiLE catalog by logging on as Guest. Go to the MiLE login page and type the word Guest, then choose Submit input. Guest users are not able to make requests using MiLE, and must use their home library. If you are affiliated with another MiLE participating library, then navigate to that library and logon with your patron barcode from that library.

Searching MiLE

Question: How do I search the MiLE catalog?

Answer: The Search Menu has two basic options (a) search and request books, and (b) search only magazines. Type your search term in the text box and choose only one kind of search from either of the two basic options. Choose the catalog to search (pull-down menu) and then click the begin searching arrow. If your search is unsuccessful, choose another catalog and resubmit the search. From the results screen click on the linked title to view details. Follow the instructions on the screen to request an item.

Question: May I request an item that is owned by the Kresge Library?

Answer: The primary function of MiLE is to give OU patrons access to items not owned by the Kresge Library. If a search of the Library Catalog is unsuccessful, then go to MiLE. If the Kresge Library owns an items but it is currently charged out MiLE will accept your request. If the item is on the shelf in the Kresge Library, then MiLE will send you an error message.

Question: What should I do if I see the item I want in the MiLE catalog but it is not available for requesting?

Answer: Currently only books and circulating government documents can be requested from MiLE libraries. For other items, you may visit the holding library to gain access. Check the websites of the libraries you wish to visit to see their hours and policies about on-site use for guests. For a list of MiLE libraries and their websites, see the MiLE login page . You may also place a traditional interlibrary loan request by using the ILL Request.

Notification and Status Check

Question: How will I know when to pick up the item?

Answer: Patrons are notified via email when their books are received at the Oakland University Kresge Library. All materials requested through MiLE are to be picked up at and returned to the circulation desk of the Kresge Library. Patrons are also notified by email when their requests cannot be filled, and when their requests have expired (30 day default).

Question: How can I check on the status of an item that I requested in MiLE?

Answer: You can logon to MiLE and choose the arrow Review Your Requests. If you still have questions, contact us at mileoaku@oakland.edu.
