ABOUT MiLE

MiLE is a new web-based interlibrary loan resource that links the catalogs of over 100 libraries in southeast Michigan. The list of participating libraries includes public, academic, medical and special libraries. Users are able to search a virtual union catalog and place online requests directly. The system allows users to track the status of each request and automatically informs the user by email when the item is available for pick-up.

ELIGIBILITY and COST

Oakland University faculty, staff and currently enrolled students are eligible to use MiLE for free.
This project is made possible by a Library Services and Technology grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is administered by the Library of Michigan.

LIMITATIONS

At present only circulating books and government documents are available for a three-week period with no renewals. The upcoming version of the software will permit patrons to request renewals.

HOW to USE MiLE

Patrons may access MiLE via the interlibrary loan home-page, by clicking here. To search and request, Oakland University patrons must logon by using the barcode on the back of their library card. See the Frequently Asked Questions for more tips on using MiLE.

PICK-UP and RETURN of MATERIALS

All books must be picked up at the Circulation Desk of Oakland University's Kresge Library and will be charged to the borrower's library account. Patrons will be notified by email when materials are ready to be picked up.

All MiLE loans must be returned to the Circulation Desk of Oakland University's Kresge Library. MiLE loans must never be returned through the Library's book drops.

BOOK JACKET

A jacket attached to the front of each item contains the due date, patron's name and any conditions set by the lending library. This jacket must never be removed from the item

OVERDUE MATERIALS

The library charges 25¢ per day for each overdue interlibrary loan item. Failure to return overdue material will also result in borrowing and registration holds placed on the patron's university record. MiLE service is a courtesy extended by lending libraries, and if their regulations are disregarded they may discontinue service to this library.

MESSAGE FROM the ASSOCIATE DEAN

Oakland University's Kresge Library is offering a new interlibrary loan service to support the research and instruction of OU students and faculty. MiLE (Michigan Library Exchange) will greatly enhance access to books and documents by enabling authorized members of the OU community to simultaneously search the catalogs of over 100. participating libraries, then submit requests to have the books delivered by courier to the Kresge Library. I invite you to visit the Interlibrary Loan homepage to learn more about MiLE. Give it a try and let us know how it works for you!
- Julie Voelck, Associate Dean
