ABOUT MeLCAT
MeLCat is the web-based, statewide union catalog and resource sharing system to share materials among all types of libraries in Michigan. Users are able to search the union catalog and place online requests directly.
The system allows users to track the status of each request
and automatically informs the user by email when the item
is available for pick-up.
ELIGIBILITY and COST
Oakland University faculty, staff and currently enrolled
students are eligible to use MeLCat for free.
This project is made possible by a Library Services and Technology
Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and
is administered by the Library of Michigan.
LIMITATIONS
At present only circulating books, government
documents and some audio visual materials are available through the system.
Items are generally available for a three-week period with one renewal.
Users are allowed to have 50 active requests in the system at any one time.
HOW to USE MeLCat
Patrons may access MeLCat by clicking here. To search and request, Oakland University patrons must logon by using their name and Grizzly Number. See the Frequently Asked
Questions for more tips on using MeLCat.
PICK-UP and RETURN of MATERIALS
All books must be picked up at the Circulation Desk of Oakland
University's Kresge Library and will be charged to the borrower's
MeLCat account. Patrons will be notified by email when materials
are ready to be picked up.
All MeLCat loans must be returned to the Circulation Desk of
Oakland University's Kresge Library. MeLCat loans must never
be returned through the Library's book drops.
BOOK JACKET
A jacket attached to the front of each item contains the
due date, patron's name and any conditions set by the lending
library. This jacket must never be removed from the item.
OVERDUE, DAMAGED OR LOST MATERIALS
The library charges a fine of $1.00 per day for each overdue
interlibrary loan item. All patrons will be
BLOCKED
from ILL service after the third overdue notice. Failure to receive
notification does not relieve borrowers of fines accrued.
In addition, failure to return overdue items will result in
a hold on the borrower's university record.
When an item is ten or more days overdue the MeLCat system or the ILLiad system will declare
it LOST and bill as follows:
- $70 replacement fee (refundable if item returned)
- $20 processing fee (non-refundable)
- $10 accumulated overdue fine
