Searching MeLCat
Question:
How do I search MeLCat?
1. Choose the MeLCat link from the
Interlibrary Loan page or click here.
Type your search then click the Find It button as shown in the example below:
2. From the resulting list click the item you want to borrow. In the next screen shown
below click "Get this for me" as indicated:
3. Follow the instructions on the remaining screens to authenticate as an Oakland
University user and complete the request. See example below:
Question: May I request an item that is owned by the Kresge Library?
The primary function of MeLcat is to give OU patrons access to items not owned by the
Kresge Library. If a search of the Library Catalog is unsuccessful, then go to MeLCat. If
the Kresge Library's copy is currently out on loan MeLCat will accept your request. If the
item is on the shelf in the Kresge Library, then MeLCat will send you an error message.
Notification and Status Check
Question: How will I know when to pick up
the item?
Patrons are notified via email when their items are received at the Oakland
University Kresge Library. All materials requested through MeLCat are to be picked up
at and returned to the circulation desk of the Kresge Library.
Patrons are also notified by email when their requests cannot
be filled, and when their requests have expired (30 day default).
Question: How can I check on the status of an item that I
requested in MeLCat?
From the MeLCat search page choose
the My MeL link or
click here. Choose Oakland University as your home library. On the resulting page
login with your name and Grizzly Number. This will display the details of all your
requests. If you still have questions, contact us at illoaku@oakland.edu.
Fees and Fines
Question: What is the cost for using MeLCat?
There is no cost to borrow materials from other MeLCat libraries. However, as with
all Interlibrary Loan and OU Kresge Library materials, fines and fees for late or lost
items will be applied to the user's library account.
See details on overdue or lost items at
Interlibrary Loan Policies page.
