Policies for
Interlibrary Loan Items
Loan Periods/Renewals
The loan period is established by the lending library and is approximately 3 weeks in most cases. Renewals are allowed at the discretion of the lending library. Overdue books are not renewable.
At least four working days prior to the due date patrons should connect to MeLCat or ILLiad (as applicable) and request a renewal on checked out items.
Recalls/Returns
All interlibrary Loan items are subject to Recall at any time. You must return the item promptly, otherwise you will be fined according to the number of days overdue. All items must be returned to the Kresge Library Circulation Desk.
Overdue, Damaged or Lost Materials
The library charges a fine of $1.00 per day for each overdue
interlibrary loan item. All patrons will be BLOCKED
from ILL service after the third overdue notice. Failure to receive
notification does not relieve borrowers of fines accrued.
In addition, failure to return overdue items will result in
a hold on the borrower's university record.
When an item is ten or more days overdue the MeLCat system or the ILLiad system will declare
it LOST and bill as follows:
- $70 replacement fee (refundable if item returned)
- $20 processing fee (non-refundable)
- $10 accumulated overdue fine
