Government
Documents at Kresge Library
LOCATION
AND ACCESS
The Government Documents collection at Kresge
Library, consisting of
both Federal and state of Michigan publications, is located on the first (ground) floor of the library. The Federal collection
of
print and microfiche documents is arranged according to the
Superintendent
of Documents (SuDoc) classification system which groups publications by
the issuing agency. The state of Michigan collection is arranged
according to Library of Congress (LC) classification (as are the
library's
book and journal collections) which groups publications by subject.
Most,
but not quite all, government documents in print format can be borrowed
(see below). In addition, many Federal publications are now available
online
and are accessible via the library's online catalog.
As a selective depository for Federal documents,
Kresge Library selects
approximately 37 percent of the items, or series, made available
to depositories. Area
libraries that are also selective depositories include Wayne State
University, Detroit Public Library,
Eastern Michigan University, University of Detroit Mercy, Oakland
County
Community College/Orchard Ridge Campus and Oakland County Research
Library. The Library of Michigan in Lansing is a regional depository
and thereby receives 100 percent of depository items available.

Circulation of Government
Documents
While there are some documents that cannot be
borrowed, most print documents can be checked out of the library by any
Oakland student, faculty or staff member, as well as by any residents
living within the 9th Congressional District. The latter will need to
present a Michigan driver's license or other acceptable identification
at the library's Circulation Desk. All non-OU borrowers will be subject
to the library's regular procedures for overdue materials and lost or
damaged materials.
