ILLiad–a
new interlibrary loan service debuts

ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan internet accessible database)
is an electronic system which enables users to:
- Submit interlibrary loan requests easily
- Receive many of the photocopy requests more quickly
through Electronic Delivery (e-mail)
- Check on the status of requests through the Web
at any time from any location
- Request renewals
- Edit and cancel requests via the web
- View a history of all requests
You must have an OU computer account (e-mail) User
ID and password to use ILLiad. You will enter your name,
address and other personal information into the system
only once, at the time of registration. Thereafter when
requesting materials, you will just need to enter your
user name and password. If you have not registered for
ILLiad service, why not take the time now? Logon
and then complete the Registration Form. A reminder:
Before making a request for an item, always check the
Voyager Library Catalog to see if OU already owns the
item.
Virtual
Reference at Kresge Library
Oakland University library patrons can now ask questions
and get answers, in real time, on the Internet, from
the reference staff. Clicking on Ask a Librarian on
the KL home page
will allow them to chat online via the Virtual
Reference Librarian link. A special feature
of the system allows co-browsing. This permits the librarian
to guide the patron's browser to the best resources
on the Internet and allows them to search and view library
or Internet web pages simultaneously and discuss the
findings.
Initially this service will be offered from noon to
4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
In addition to the chat option, Kresge Library offers
e-mail
and telephone reference services (248 370-4426). Users
can also find librarians at the Reference Desk from
8am-10pm Monday-Thursday, 8am-6pm on Friday, 9am-6pm
on Sat. and 1:00-10:00pm on Sunday. The Library has
a wealth of online reference sources and electronic
full text journals that are accessible via the KL home
page, and OU's librarians are delighted to provide expert
assistance and guidance in finding the information needed.

Wireless
technology installed in KL
The wireless environment now functioning
on all four floors of the library provides laptop and
PDA users with network access. In addition to a laptop
or a PDA, users will need a compatible network card
(802.1 1b) Once you are connected, you will be able
to access library databases, the online catalog, e-mail
and the Internet from almost anywhere in the building.
Authentication using your OU e-mail address and password
is required in order to log onto the network. Signal
strength and speed may vary depending on location and
number of users. For additional information, check the
Grizznet
FAQ page posted on the UTS site.
Library
Committee issues report
The Senate Library Committee determined
that its mission in the 2002-2003 academic year would
be to measure the resources and services offered by
Kresge Library and encourage a stronger integration
of Kresge Library into the instructional mission of
the university. A copy of the resulting report is available
on the University Senate website. (http://www.oakland.edu/senate/libanrpt03.doc)

Elaine Didier, Dean of the Library,
was recently elected chair of the Library of Michigan
board of trustees. In her capacity as chair of the Library
of Michigan board, Didier also serves as a member of
the Library of Michigan Foundation board of directors.
Dana Juriew Keyse
accepted a position as a reference librarian at the
Oakland Community College Auburn Hills campus. In addition
to being very involved in reference and instruction
activities at Oakland, Dana was also active at the university
level, working on outreach activities and diversity
areas. We wish her well in her new endeavor. |
