MINUTES OF THE MEETING
of the
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
December 15, 1961
Vice President May requested authorization to
sell 1,000 shares of Clark Equipment stock originally received
from Mrs. Wilson at a price of 35 1/4.
On motion by Dr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Huff,
it was voted to approve the above request.
Approval of a formal resolution, in the amount
of $45,000 at 4 ½ % interest, repayable in 30 years,
relative to the issuance and sale of Michigan State University-Oakland
dormitory furnishing bonds. (Resolution in full will appear
in the permanent records.)
On motion by Mr. Huff, seconded by Mr. Vanderploeg,
it was voted to approve the above resolution.
Gift from Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Harlan of Birmingham
of $25,000 for Michigan State University-Oakland, $10,000
of which is to be used for the creation of a scholarship in
the name of Mrs. Harlan and $15,000 to be used for library
acquisitions.
On motion by Dr. Smith, seconded by Mr. Merriman,
it was voted to accept with gratitude this generous
gift from Trustee and Mrs. Harlan.
Change in status of William G. Hammerle from
Associate Professor of Physics at a salary of $9,500 per year
on a 10-month basis to Associate Professor of Engineering
Science and Director of the Engineering Science Program at
a salary of $14,000 per year on a 12-month basis, effective
January 1, 1962.
Personnel action:
Establishment of an Assistant to Executive Director
X position with a salary range of $5400 to $6780. This position
is paid from the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in
Mathematics, account 91-5842
Reclassify a Principal Clerk to an Assistant-University Services
IX position, paid from account 91-9241
Establishment of a Departmental Secretary V position for the
Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics, paid
from account 91-5842
Recommendation that the new dormitory be officially
named "Anibal House" in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin
H. Anibal.
Gifts for the Scholarship Fund:
$526.80 from the Macomb County Scholarship Committee
of Mt. Clemens
$110 from the Rochester Ministerial Association
$275 from the Exchange Club of Brooklands of Rochester
$510 from the Zonta Club of Pontiac
$280 from Delta Upsilon Memorial Foundation of Detroit
$140 from Alpha Delta Kappa of Pontiac
Gifts and Grants:
Gift of 1,000 shares of General Motors Corporation
stock valued at $57,112, from Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Anibal to
be used under the direction of Chancellor Varner at his discretion,
but primarily for completing the dormitory and Oakland Center
furnishings and to acquire equipment in the engineering science
area.
$300 from The Pontiac Daily Press to be credited
to the MSU-0 Discretionary Gift Fund.

On motion by Mr. Merriman, seconded by Mr.
Harlan, it was voted to approve the above items relative
to Michigan State University-Oakland.
Bids have been received for the deep well pump
and piping at Michigan State University
Oakland, as follows:
