Request from Chancellor Varner for approval of agreement with Local 116, United Plant Guard Workers of America. The contract provides a wage rate plan similar to that used by the Michigan State University Department of Public Safety, providing step increases on the anniversary date of hire or promotion. The contract also provides that an officer may be hired at a salary above the starting rate if he has had appropriate experience in another police department. The fringe benefits are the same as those provided for other full-time clerical-technical and biweekly payroll employees. The term of the contract is one year, with an expiration date of June 30, 1970.

After an explanation by Secretary Breslin and discussion, it was moved by Mr. Thompson, seconded by Mr. Merriman, to approve Oakland University's contract with Local 116. Motion carried. Mr. Stevens did not vote on this item.

It was recommended by Chancellor Varner that he be authorized to negotiate with Mr. John De Carlo, currently Vice President for University Relations at Central Michigan University, for the position of Assistant Chancellor for the Professional Performing Arts at a salary of $26,500 per year, effective September 15, 1969.

On motion by Mr. Huff, seconded by Mr. Nisbet, it was voted to approve Chancellor Varner's recommendation. Trustees Hartman and White voted "No." (p. 373)
