MINUTES OF THE MEETING

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
June 19 and 20, 1962
Discussion of the recommendation submitted at
the May meeting to the effect that the former policy of refunding
the total $50 deposit fee required of new students be changed
to a refund of one half of the deposit fee if the student
notifies the University of his decision not to attend before
the predetermined date as published by the University.
On motion by Mr. Huff, seconded by Mr. Vanderploeg,
it was voted that the $50 deposit required of all new
undergraduate students before completing their final acceptance
for admission be changed from a basis of 100% refundable to
a basis of one half refund if the student notifies the University
prior to a definite date.
Appointment of John Lawrence Beardman as Instructor
in Art at $6000 effective August 15, 1962.
Carmen M. Urla appointment as Instructor in
Foreign Languages at $5000 effective September 1, 1962 to
August 31, 1963.
Appointment of Genevieve Christiane Prevost
as Instructor in Foreign Languages at $6250 effective August
15, 1962.
Appointment of Thomas M. Jenkins as Instructor
in Mathematics at $7200 effective August 15, 1962.
Appointment of David DiChiera as Assistant Professor
of Music at $7000 effective August 15, 1962.
Appointment of Peter M. Doiron as Assistant
Librarian at $6000 effective July 1, 1962.
Appointment of Loren L. Sgro as Assistant Librarian
at $6000 effective August 6, 1962.
Change the following staff members from temporary
appointments to regular appointments subject to tenure rules:
a. Edward J. Heubel, Associate Professor of
Political Science, effective as of February 1, 1961.
b. Beauregard Stubblefield, Associate Professor
of Mathematics, effective as of October 1, 1961.
Gifts for the scholarship fund:
$560 from Rochester Junior Women's Club
$280 from Beta Sigma Phi
$1,715.60 from Mr. and Mrs. William T. Gossett
$500 from the Rotary Club of Pontiac
$90 from the Rochester Area Ministerial Association
$560 from the Junior League of Birmingham
$425 from the Ford Motor Company
$500 from John Bugas
Gifts and grants:
Grant of $10,000 from the Louise Tuller Miller
Estate to be applied towards the construction of four tennis
courts.
Grant of $10 from Mr. and Mrs. Ralph T. Norvell
of Pontiac to be used by David Wilder for the purchase of
a book in memory of Mrs. Mildred Matthews.
Grant of $1,200 from Research Corporation of
New York City to be used under the direction of Paul Tomboulian
in the field of organic chemistry.
On motion by Mr. Stevens, seconded by Dr. Smith,
it was voted to approve all the Michigan State University-Oakland
