May 15, 1970
Item from Finance Committee meeting:
Request from Oakland University for approval
of the Board of Trustees to submit an application for assistance
under Title IV of the Housing Act with the Department of Housing
and Urban Development for a loan in the amount of $2,805,000
for student housing for 432 single students.
On motion by Mr. Stevens, seconded by Mr. Nisbet,
it was unanimously voted to approve the above request.
Chancellor O'Dowd requested that Executive Vice
President Breslin be given authority to sign a labor contract
in the name of the Board of Trustees with the Oakland AFSCME
Union, Local 1418, prior to June 30.
On motion by Mr. Nisbet, seconded by Mr. Huff,
it was unanimously voted to approve the Oakland University
item.

$31,000 from the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission,
Argonne, Illinois to be used under the direction of Clifford
V. Harding in Biology to support study in cellular proliferation
and regeneration following tissue damage.
$21,000 from the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission,
Argonne, Illinois to be used under the direction of V. Everett
Kinsey in Biology to study the ocular lens in relation to
cataractogenesis.
$11,900 from the National Science Foundation,
Washington, D. C. to be used under the direction of Ronald
A. De Vore in Mathematics, to examine the approximation of
functions by means of positive linear operators.
$ 1,000 from Mr. & Mrs. Don E. Ahrens,
Bloomfield Hills, to be used under the direction of Chancellor
O'Dowd as a contribution to the Chancellor's Club.
$ 1,000 from the Chrysler Corporation Fund,
Detroit, matching contribution from Mr. and Mrs. Rinehart
S. Bright, to be used under the direction of Chancellor O'Dowd
for the Chancellor's Club.
Grants to be used under the direction of John

On motion by Mr. Nisbet, seconded by Mr. Huff,
it was unanimously voted to approve the Oakland University
gifts and grants.
