Use the catalog to find books we have in the Kresge Library. Also use the catalog to see if we have access to a particular journal title on-line or in print.

To search for city- or region-related architecture or history books, you will need to conduct a Subject search. Here are some sample Subject Headings that may be useful:

• Architecure Michigan -- this will produce an alphabetical list of subheadings about Michigan architecture
• Detroit (Mich.) Buildings, structures, etc. -- you can substitute the name of another city, i.e. Royal oak (Mich.) Buildings, structures, etc.
• Wayne county (Mich.) History -- you can substitute the name of another county, i.e. Oakland county (Mich.) History

Lexis-Nexis

Excellent place to find current newspaper articles. Indexes full-text articles for most major papers. Follow these steps to locate articles or reviews from major papers in the US.

• Click on Guided News Search.
• Select U.S. News, Michigan News Sources OR General News, Major Papers
• Enter your search keywords. You can be specific, i.e. detroit and "renaissance center" or more general, i.e. buildings and history

New York Times Historical Collection (1851-2003)

Good general purpose database, contains articles from a large variety of subject areas. Includes articles from scholarly journals and popular magazines

• Best to use the name of a well-known building, i.e. detroit and "renaissance center"
