Web of Science (includes Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index) --OU has this resource from 1980 forward. This index/database to journal articles covers more life sciences journals than any other index/database that OU has. There are no formal "subject headings" but standardized keywords and author keywords are assigned to each article. Once you find one relevant articles, you can then find others by looking at that articles' references, looking at articles that cite "your" article, or looking at articles that cite similar references to those of "your" article. If there is no link to the full text of an article, Be sure to use the
links!
General Science Abstracts--Indexes far fewer journals than Web of Science, but it does index many of the very important ones. Another benefit is its formal "subject headings" which do a better job of bringing together articles on similar topics. If there is not a "full text" icon for an article, be sure to use the
links!
JSTOR--Online collection of many scholarly journals from volume 1 until 2 to 5 years ago. Full text of articles is searchable! Problem: JSTOR does not use subject headings. If you get too many results searching your terms in "full-text" try restricting them to "article title."
ScienceDirect--More than 1500 e-journals published by Elsevier. Online access generally is available from 1995 to the present. These titles are also indexed in Web of Science.
Lexis-Nexis--An important online resource that indexes hundreds of newspapers and provides fulltext of the articles. Best way to search is to use "Power Search" and add "index terms" to your search.
Nature News--An interesting source to peruse regularly. You can also search within the publication using keywords.
Science News--Another good science news source that is worth looking at regularly. You can also search by keyword within this publication.
Does the library have access to a journal online? Easiest way to find out is to check the "E-Journals A to Z " from the library's "Find Articles" page. You can also find e-journals there classified by subject category. Titles listed under "Earth & Environmental Sciences" might be useful.
Where do you find lists of databases and other online resources available at OU? The easiest way to find these is to check "Databases by Subject" or "Databases A to Z" from the "Find Articles" page.

When you are using the library's databases, be sure to click on the blue
link when the article you want does not have a full text link in the database.
will then take you to the article from another source. If there is no online access for the article, you can click on the library catalog link to see if there are print holdings. If the libary has no print copy of the article, you can link to a form to request a copy of the article via interlibrary loan.
See instructions on handout for exporting references from the Library Catalog and from Web of Science into RefWorks. Slight variations of these instructions can be found on the Library web site: for the Library Catalog, for Web of Science.
