• Library Catalog
  Use the catalog to find books we have in the Kresge Library.
• Also use the catalog to see if we have access to a particular journal title on-line or in print.
• MelCat
  A statewide catalog of many of Michigan's libraries. It allows you to request books at another library be sent to Kresge Library for you.

Find Articles

• Academic OneFile - A general purpose full-text database from InfoTrac. Contains both popular and scholarly articles.
• WilsonSelectPlus - Full-text articles from general magazines and scholarly journals.
• Social Sciences Abstracts - Index to the journal literature of the social sciences.
• Sociological Abstracts - An international index to journals in sociology and related disciplines.
• JSTOR - a full text collection of back issues of scholarly journals
• American: History and Life - A guide to articles from history journals.
• Readers Guide Retrospective -- Trial database (H.W. Wilson databases) until Sept. 30, 2008. Citations from popular and scholarly journals from 1890-1982. You need to register with your email address.

• Depending upon your topic, there may be other relevant databases for your research. Consult the library's list of databases arranged by subject area.
  

In these databases, if an article is not available online, use the feature to identify if the article is available online in another database OR check the Library Catalog for a print copy in the library.

Citation Searching

Be sure to review the works cited/references list or bibliographies of articles and books that you find; these can lead you to additional sources. If you identify a book from one of these lists, check the Library Catalog to determine if KL owns the item. For books or book chapters, perform a Title search using the book's title (NOT the chapter title). For articles, perform a Journal Title search using the journal name (NOT the article title). For example, to find the following article:

Archaeology of the automobile age, by Neil Asher Silberman. Archaeology, v. 44, (May/June 91) p. 72

...perform a Journal Title search in the Library Catalog (using Archaeology in your search) to determine if KL owns this article, either online or in print.
