Use the catalog to find books owned by Kresge Library. Also use the catalog to see if we have access to a particular journal title either on-line or in print. You will need to do this when you search public resources like PubMed or PEDro which are not linked to our holdings.

Primary Library Databases

CINAHL

The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) is a comprehensive and highly-authoritative database for research in nursing and health sciences.

Medline

Medline is a comprehensive research database covering all area of medicine; it includes thousands of records with substantial abstracts.

Cochrane

This is a collection of databases that contain evidence for healthcare decision-making. Includes systematic review abstracts, technology assessments, economic evaluations and individual clinical trials.

SPORTDiscus

This database indexes journals, books proceedings on training, sport, physical fitness, rehabilitation and sport medicine, exercise science and related disciplines.

 

Depending upon your topic, there may be other relevant databases for your research. Consult the library's list of databases arranged by subject area, or check out our Health Sciences Resources page.

In these databases, if an article is not available online, use the feature to identify if the article is available online in another database or in print in the library.

PEDro

The Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) provides information on "randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy."

Scirus

The most comprehensive science-specific search engine on the open Web; excludes licensed library databases and content.

PubMed

The open-access public version of the National Library of Medicine's stupendous index to the biomedical sciences. PubMed does include some small current/specialty databases distinct from the main Medline database. In general, for Oakland University students and faculty it is better to use Medline which is linked to our library's online fulltext and other holdings. PubMed is not.
