For researching one of the Healthy People 2010 10 Leading Health Indicators, it is advisable to construct a search strategy with two elements, the health indicator and the behavioral, e.g. tobacco and behavior change. To allow for different forms of words, use wildcard symbols:
(tobacco or smok*) and (behavior* n3 change)
To further narrow down your search, you can add another keyword or limit by publication year. Limiting your results to peer-reviewed publications ensures that you are using high quality scholarship in your research.
Medline
OU's version includes over 15 million citations for articles. It links to all our online full-text journals as well as our other collections; therefore, it is more user-friendly and productive than the public access version.
PsycInfo
The most comprehensive research database for psychology and related disciplines. Since human behavior is central to any issues involving change, this resource is highly relevant for your research.
CINAHL Plus with Full-Text
A comprehensive index to nursing and allied health literature, containing links to full-text articles from other databases and e-journal collections.
Alt-Health Watch
A selective, niche index with full text on alternative health care, with a mix of popular, practitioner, and scholarly sources. Includes full-text articles.
Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
More than 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on nursing and related disciplines, as well as abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. This collection is indexed and linked to in CINAHL, above.
SPORT Discus
This database indexes journals, books proceedings on training, sport, physical fitness, rehabilitation and sport medicine, exercise science and related disciplines.
Library Catalog
Use the catalog to find out if we have access to a particular journal
title online or in print. You will need to do this when you search public resources like PubMed.
PubMed
The open-access public version of the National Library of Medicine's index to the biomedical sciences. PubMed does include some small current/specialty databases distinct from the main Medline database. In general, for Oakland University students and faculty, it is better to use Medline because it is linked to our library's online full text and other holdings. PubMed is not.
Scirus
The most comprehensive science-specific search engine on the "free" Internet; excludes licensed library databases and content.
