For general information on surburbia and its many facets try browsing on the 3rd floor in the HT350s. For information on cities, urban renewal, cities and their relation to the suburbs, try browsing from HT100-HT400.

Good general purpose database, contains articles from a large variety of subject areas. Includes articles from scholarly journals and popular magazines.

InfoTrac OneFile

Good general purpose database, contains articles from a large variety of subject areas. Includes articles from scholarly journals and popular magazines

Lexis-Nexis

Excellent place to find current newspaper articles. Indexes full-text articles for most major papers. Follow these steps to locate articles from major papers in the US.

  • Click on Power Search
  • Under Select Sources select U.S. Newspapers & Wires
  • Enter your search keywords using search connectors
  • Limit by date to reduce results

Urban Studies & Planning

Full-text resources on the topic of urban studies & planning. Good place to find peer-reviewed articles on cities and suburbs.

Michigan Newspapers

The electronic editions of The Detroit News, The Grand Rapids Press, and Lansing State Journal.

JSTOR

A database of hundreds of full-text journals in a variety of subject areas, including history and anthropology.

Project Muse

A database of over 100 full-text journals in the humanities and social sciences. Coverage extends back to the last few years.
